The MAAP/Basso Team

NEW YEAR, NEW LEGS.

The MAAP/Basso team is an Australian amateur racing team with a simple aim: have a blast riding hard and racing with mates. As a local team in Melbourne, it originally kicked off in 2015. Since then, the drive to ride and desire to race has grown with each new experience, result and rider. For this 2017/18 race season, the MAAP/Basso team is introducing a new team member to join in on the year's riding and racing. From training days, crits and road races, the guys will be mixing it up on the road all across Australia.

MAAP/BASSO SPONSORS — THANK YOU

Year after year, the MAAP/Basso team has been instrumental in helping MAAP test, refine and evolve our product fit and function across the board. The exclusive MAAP/Basso team features the leading fabric innovations from our material vault. In addition to MAAP apparel, the team is also wearing the MAAP Edition Giro Synthe™ with MIPS technology and Suplest Edge 3 shoes. And with the support of Shimano, the MAAP/Basso team bike is race ready. Featuring Dura-Ace R9150 Di2, Dura-Ace wheelsets and Pro Components, it’s fair to say motivation to race these bikes is high.

THE BASSO DIAMANTE SV, MAAP EDITION

Though only a few years young, MAAP and Basso’s relationship has grown exponentially through a shared commitment to design, innovation and, without question, riding our brains out.

For more than 35 years, the Basso family have been making it all happen at their factory located in Bassano del Grappa – a small slice of Italian heaven. And last year, we teamed up to create a limited edition MAAP colorway of the Diamante, designed here at MAAP. This year, in the spirit of progression, we’ve joined forces once again to create an exclusive MAAP colorway for the Diamante SV (Super Veloce) – a 100% made in Italy superbike.

Weighing in at 820 grams with a 390 gram fork, the Diamante SV features 100% 3K Torayca High Modulus Carbon Fiber in T1000 and T800, the highest tensile strength from Torayca’s range. It’s aerodynamic geometry, wing shaped seat tube and rear stays housing is made to perform at the highest level in race and crit settings. Proudly built up by local Melbourne bike shop, Saint Cloud, they’re ready to ride.

“After the MAAP Diamante Edition, the expectations for this collaboration were very high. The first collaborative frame between MAAP and Basso received brought a fresh style in the road which saw love from all parts of the world. With the Diamante SV MAAP Edition, we’re continuing that spirit of progression marrying a one-of-a-kind design and creative perspective with our the most aero frame we build.”

INTRODUCING — ADAM PHELAN

Ultimately, the MAAP/Basso team is about ripping around with mates as much as it is racing for results. This year, the we're proud to welcome a new rider to the team: Adam Phelan

As a former pro racing for Aussie Pro Conti team Drapac, Adam spent the last 6-years racing and traversing the globe competing in some of the world's most demanding races. Last year, Adam decided to retire from professional racing in order to pursue a new chapter outside the peloton but still within the cycling world. This year, Adam will race and ride with MAAP/Basso while living up in Canberra creating the foundation for his new business New Gravity Media.

"Ever since I left professional cycling at the end of 2016, there has been an itch within me that didn't die down. I've enjoyed developing a new relationship with the sport as I've built up a new life after racing. For me, it's all about the passion for riding now. Whether it's just to the cafe or a ride out into the mountains, it's all out of pure enjoyment. Cycling is an escape, it's like meditation for me. So when the opportunity came to join the MAAP/Basso team and to get stuck into some races again, I couldn't say no.”

- Adam Phelan
